Giggle More

Personally I’m not drawn to coaches and other people who never look like they are actually happy. I’m not drawn to what looks like a constant struggle, a constant battle, a constant challenge for improvement. Video after video talking about overcoming, pushing through, do, do do. I’m not drawn to the straight faces and the seriousness of it all. I often feel exhausted just watching them.

And when I pause from my inevitable, human judgment and ask what is going on for me, I realise very quickly that the whole constant pushing of self-improvement, never-ending challenge is not what I am about, and moreover it does not align in any way wth what I have chosen to believe to be the purpose of life. Of course it seems to work for some, the ego is all about life being a challenge and overcoming struggles, but the absence of a natural ease is not for me. I find myself asking “Where is the love?"

I am drawn to love. I am drawn to happy. I am drawn to fun. I am drawn to the giggle more than the struggle.

Many years ago I heard Tony Robbins interview Deepak Chopra, and chuckle as he asked his last question, I guess believing it to be a struggle to answer. With some tongue-in-cheek irony he said “I like to ask an easy question at the end, Deepak, so what do you think is the purpose of life?” Ha!
Deepak answered very quickly, saying it was actually a very easy question for him.

“The purpose of life is the expansion of love and happiness."

YES!!! I LOVED this! “I can adopt that belief too!” I thought.
And so it is.

I know if I am not feeling love, I have forgotten who I am. If life is not fun I have forgotten why I am here and forgotten life’s greatest lubricant.

My two favourite questions that occur most during coaching are “What would love do?” and “What would make this fun?” Given my chosen purpose, that really is no surprise.

We can spend our whole life searching for the purpose of life, people have been doing exactly that for millennia, and many make it a struggle, have it be a constant search and quest to find themselves. (Hint: Yoohooo! You're already here!)

Or we can simply choose a purpose. For me, my chosen purpose is something I can remind myself of and bring to absolutely everything and anything I do. In any moment.

Of course I get lost in my own thought storms, and I don’t always have this purpose in mind. Hello, human adventure! But when I do remember, life becomes exactly what I have chosen it to be.
In the moments I remember, life becomes the expansion of love and happiness.

I remember to giggle more and struggle less.

I invite you to choose too. Feel free to choose this or maybe something similar. But whatever it is, I encourage you to have your purpose be something that has you feel and express love, and FFS smile! Especially if you're making a video
