Surrendering to Change

How often do we strive for some kind of stability in life?

I’ll bet the top two desires of stability are a stable relationship and a stable job or income.

Whenever I’m focusing on either creating or finding stability I’m limiting my experience of life, much like stabilisers on a push bike limit the experience of the ride.

Life has so much more to offer than restrictive stability. Who wants to dance with their feet tied together?

Our quest for stability is always ultimately futile, since nothing can be either retained or preserved.

That futile quest always takes us out of the current moment, this one, the only one we ever have, in which the universe is presenting itself to us in all its present splendour. This beautiful moment that we miss because of our obsession with insuring against a future one.

We’re all going to die. Our relationships will change shape.
Spending our energy on resisting that and imagining we can do something about it takes us out of the present moment. Chasing the illusion of stability effectively kills us before we die.

Embracing it and realising we are always okay with it liberates us, and frees us from the shackles of insecurity.

Only then may we dance without hindrance and in alignment with nature itself. To me at least, that looks like the most joyous way to truly live whilst we’re alive.
