We’re Never Not Creating

Stacks Image 964
Most of us interested in human behaviour or psychology will have come across the concept that we create our own reality. Delving a little deeper into this we can see that whatever is going on in the physical world around us, it is indeed us that is creating our experience of that world through the principle of thought.

Any moment we’re having an experience, we are creating it.
If you are anything like me (stop resisting, I know you are!) you will have had times when you just don’t feel creative. You might find yourself sitting in front of a blank screen, in a huff on the sofa, or employing any number of avoidance tactics to take you away from what it is you think you ‘should be doing’ that supposedly needs your creative juices to flow.

When I consider the times I am able to write, it is very often free-flowing, and like most artists it seems to come through me rather than from me. I’m just one cog holding the pen or using the keyboard in the bigger system of creation. Often, in exploring and ’getting creative’ with clients, it doesn’t feel like I am even there at all. We’re simply guided in our conversation by questions that come to my mind in what appears to be my own curiosity, yet on reflection it seems it’s my curiosity that is being guided.

So are we creative artists or artists of creation?
It looks to me like we’re both. And always both.

When I’m not creating my own story of how I’m not creative, (do you see the irony in that?) I am able to allow the wisdom of a greater creative energy to flow through me. Without my story of ‘I am not creative’ I have a clearer mind and am able to allow the creative energy of life to flow through me unabated.

That flow does only seem to happen when I am not caught up in that story, caught up in my own little creation of my own reality. In all those times I don’t feel creative, I am focused on me and creating a story about myself. It’s often a compelling and powerful story.

We talk about writer’s block as if it’s something that’s already there and is for us to overcome. Yet writer’s block is just another form of a reality that can only ever be created by the writer. The writer creates writer’s block then claims an inability to create.

It seems the times when I don’t feel creative are the times when I am personally being my most creative. So creative, in fact, I’m able to create something in my mind that keeps out all other creative forces of nature. Some might say, so creative I’m keeping out God.

Now that IS a powerful creation!
