In 2014, at my first Robert Holden coaching workshop in San Diego, Robert invited us all to rewrite a new version of our business card, and to really consider what it was we did, outside of all the usual labels and ways of describing jobs, roles and careers. We were handed blank business cards onto which to write our new job title, and these were then all put into his infamous hat.

I pondered for a while, played with a few ideas, one of which was Liberator. I really liked that - helping to set people free, free from all that holds them back from what they want, holds them back from expressing who they truly are. Sets them free from everything that limits them.

Then I realised there is really just one thing I do with people, from which everything else flourishes and thrives.

I teach people about love, for it is only love that can liberate.

How do I do that?

It is only love that can teach love.

That was it! I love them. I love my clients. I love people.

I am a lover. My ‘new’ business card simply said:
Phil Goddard, Lover.

And, of course, it was one of the few cards that my dear friend and mentor, Robert Holden, pulled out of his hat to read to the 100 or so participants.
